Wildcats bite Bulldogs, 16-6, 10-0

Eleven errors cause trouble for Dayton as it suffers two mercy-rule losses to Colton.

LEWISTON, Idaho - Dayton dropped a pair of softball games to the Colton Wildcats in disastrous fashion Saturday, dropping the first game 16-6 and taking a 10-0 loss in the nightcap of a Southeast 1B-2B interleague softball doubleheader.

It didn't help that the Bulldogs had 11 total errors in the twin bill.

"As you can tell from the numbers, we had way too many errors," Dayton coach Desiree Jones said. "Colton is a solid team and they have some great batters. We needed to play defense today to stay in the games and we didn't do that."

The Wildcats pounded out 23 hits and had 26 runs. Despite the potent Colton offense, Jones wasn't all that upset with the pitching.

"McKayla pitched pretty strong today (in game one)," Jones said. "She did have five strikeouts and nine walks. Only eight of the runs were actually earned against her. We just can't have errors like that."

Dayton (2-0, 3-5) hosts Touchet Wednesday at 4 p.m.
