Mildred B. Hayes of Milton-Freewater passed away April 12, 2012, at her home at the age of 83 years. Graveside services will be Tuesday, April 17, 2012, at 10 a.m. at the Milton-Freewater Cemetery with Pastor Steve Lyons of the First Christian Church officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the Christian Aid Center through the Munselle-Rhodes Funeral Home, 902 S. Main, Milton-Freewater, OR 97862.
Mrs. Hayes was born April 17, 1928, in Ava, Mo., the daughter of Art and Lottie Huffman McLain. She worked most of her life as a homemaker, but did work a few years doing seasonal labor at Rogers Walla Walla Cannery. She married Merle D. Hayes in Lewiston, Idaho. In her earlier years, she enjoyed hunting and fishing with her husband. Mrs. Hayes always enjoyed her pets. Her granddaughter, Desiree Stewart, worked as her caregiver for many years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Merle; two brothers, Eldon McLain and Charlie McLain; her parents; and two great-grand-daughters, Alexis and Kaitlynn Hays. Survivors include three sons, Ron wife Karen, Lynn and Melvin Hayes, all of Milton-Freewater; six grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
