St. Mary to offer free knee-injury prevention screening

Providence St. Mary Outpatient Rehabilitation will offer a free knee-injury prevention screening on April 29, for female athletes at the YMCA's Healthy Kids, Safe Kids Day.

The free screening will be 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the YMCA, 340 S. Park.

Every year, one in 100 female high school athletes will suffer a serious injury to the anterior cruciate ligament in their knees. Many of these are preventable. During the free screening, a physical therapist specially certified in ACL injury prevention will perform a video analysis of how each of the female athletes jumps to assess their risk of knee injury.

The test takes 30 minutes, and a signed parental consent form is required. Athletes must be at least 10 years-old, wearing shoes and fitted leggings or lycra shorts.

To register or for more information, contact Tim Conley at 522-5809.
