Wa-Hi girls knock off spring break dust in 6-1 win over Ike

YAKIMA - The Wa-Hi girls tennis team defeated Eisenhower, 6-1, Thursday in Yakima in its first action back from spring break.

"Every player put in good performance today," Wa-Hi coach Kevin Peck said. "There was some dust to knock off after spring break, but the girls got back into a groove quickly and played well."

Claire Konen was defeated at the No. 1 singles spot, but other than her loss the Blue Devils rolled.

"We have a good singles lineup and it showed today," Peck said. "Rachel Schueller and Lexi Swenson continue to get better and get us solid points at the No. 2 and No. 3 spots.

"As well, Jenny Bautista stepped up again for us as at the No. 4 spot and won us a decisive point," he said.

Chantel Desjarlais and Allison Mehn defeated their counterparts from Eisenhower in straight sets.

It took Jaime Quaresma/Mari Arceo and Danielle Thongdy/Hailey Lewis three sets each to defeat their opponents.

"All-in-all, there were three well-earned points today by our doubles teams," Peck said.

Wa-Hi competes in the Tri-City Invite at different locations in Kennewick, Pasco and Richland Friday and Saturday.
