WALLA WALLA - Willamette was leading the Northwest Conference in home runs headed into Saturday's first game at Borleske Stadium, but it was Whitman College uncorking the long ball en route to a 4-2 Northwest Conference baseball victory.

Sophomore Kyles Moyes clubbed a pair of home runs, boosting his season total to six, while sophomore Jimmy Madden drilled his first collegiate round-tripper.

Sophomore Brett Lambert tossed the last two innings for Whitman, fanning three to notch his third save of the season.

After Willamette scored a run in the top of the sixth to knot the game at 2-2, Moyes crushed a two-run shot over the left-center fence to put the Missionaries back on top for good.

During Saturday's game the Bearcats scored two runs in the sixth and seventh innings to erase Whitman's 2-1 lead.

T.J. Whidby started on the mound for Willamette and got the win, pitching into the seventh inning while scattering four hits and five walks. Ryan Smith, the second of two relievers, pitched a hitless ninth to get the save.

Freshman Peter Valentine knocked in all three Whitman runs with a two-run double and RBI-single.

Ben Petersen had three hits and two RBI for the Bearcats. Tosh Semlacher reached base four times with two hits and two walks.

Freshman Will Thompson started on the hill for Whitman and took a 2-1 lead into the top of the sixth. But Tommy Kawamura's lead-off triple, followed by RBI doubles from Tyson Giza and Mitchell Rowan gave the Bearcats the lead for good and knocked Thompson from the game.
