Pomeroy's Meyers cards 71 to lead Pirates

ST. JOHN, Wash. - Pomeroy's Joel Meyers carded a one-over par 71 here Saturday and captured medalist honors at a District 9 golf match at St. John Golf Course.

"That is the best score of his high school career," Pomeroy coach Jim Greene said. "It was nice to see him have a good outing for us."

Meyers' 71 helped the Pirates defeat host St. John-Endicott and Tekoa-Oakesdale-Rosalia. Pomeroy had a team score of 464 compared with 471 for St. John-Endicott and 475 for T-O-R.

Pomeroy's Tyson Feider finished fourth with an 87 and Tanner Feider was ninth with a 97. Mitch Ruchert was 10th with a 98 and Mitch McGreevy had a 111, good for 16th.

Tyler McGreevy was 20th with a 118.

St. John's Michal Schuster was the girls medalist with an 80. Pomeroy's Teresa Meyers was second with a 90.

Golfers played in 65-degree weather under overcast skies and had to contend with breezy conditions, Greene said.

Pomeroy's next match is Tuesday at Palouse Ridge, just outside of Pullman.
