Commissioners to interview Loney replacement candidates

WALLA WALLA -- Walla Walla County commissioners Wednesday will interview candidates to replace an outgoing commissioner.

The interviews will be at 9 a.m. at the commissioners' chambers in the county Public Health and Legislative Building, 314 W. Main St., in Walla Walla.

The three people being interviewed, Eric Carpenter, Jim Johnson and Mark Spinks, were chosen by the Walla Walla County Republican Party central committee as candidates to replace Commissioner Gregg Loney, who will step down April 30 due to stress-related health problems.

The remaining two commissioners, Greg Tompkins and Perry Dozier, will then have 60 days after May 1 to choose a replacement.

If the two commissioners cannot agree on a replacement, the choice will fall to the governor.

The interviews will be open to the public, but questions will be posed only by Tompkins and Dozier. Loney will not be present or participate.
