ASOTIN - Dayton gave away the home-field advantage but secured a pair of softball victories here Monday, defeating Asotin 10-9 and 16-6 in a Southeast 2B District doubleheader.
The twin bill actually began last Thursday in Dayton, but the first game was stopped after four innings because of rain with the Bulldogs trailing 9-6.
With rain still in the Dayton forecast on Monday, school officials decided to move the rescheduled twin bill to Asotin.
"It rained in Asotin, too, for most of the first game," Dayton assistant coach Desirae Jones said. "It wasn't a heavy rain, just enough to get everything soaked.
"Then it cleared up in the second game. It was still cool, but playable."
The Bulldogs closed the first-game deficit to 9-8 with two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning and then plated two more in the seventh to pull out the victory.
Jessica Tate led off the seventh with a single and moved up a base on an error. Shelby Smith followed with a double that scored Tate with the tying run, and Tate came around to score the game-winner on a pair of wild pitches.
Nicole Lambert had a pair of singles to pace the Bulldogs' six-hit attack in the opener.
Tate stroked three singles, drove in three runs and scored twice in the second game, which was halted after six innings on the 10-run mercy rule. Smith added two singles, five RBIs and one run scored.
Dayton improved to 5-5 overall and 4-2 in district games. The Bulldogs are scheduled to play a single non-league game today at Garfield-Palouse before entertaining DeSales in an SE2B doubleheader Thursday beginning at 3 p.m.
