KENNEWICK - DeSales rolled to another golf victory over Southeast 2B opponents Liberty Christian and Tri-Cities Prep at the Canyon Lakes Golf Course Tuesday, racking up a low score of 240 with three golfers on the boys' side and a 182 with two golfers on the girls' side.
Liberty Christian came in second place with a 278 finish, while Tri-Cities Prep took up the rear with a 296.
"Those are pretty good scores on a tough course like that," DeSales coach Lon Olson said of Canyon Lakes. "It has really fast greens and undulating hills that make it really tough."
Ryan Baumgart led the way for the boys, taking medalist with a 2-over-par 74. He was consistent on the day, going out and coming back in 37 strokes each.
"Even he was satisfied with his round for once," Olson said of the junior golfer. "He had one birdy and three bogeys, but was real solid."
Sophomore Jerod Konen took 44 strokes to get through the front nine, but finished second overall after coming back in 37 strokes to card an 81.
"He parred the first five, eagled the sixth hole, then came in bogey, bogey, bogey," Olson said. "If he could play that front side ... I don't know if it takes some kids longer to warm up, or what.
"The thing I liked, is that they (DeSales) all improved for the most part."
Bryce Scott came in with an 85 and Scott Kimble carded an 86 to round out the boys' counters.
Robert Kelly shot a personal-best 102 and Daniel Schafer carded 108.
Dakota Baker, golfing for Waitsburg-Prescott, finished fifth overall at 87.
On the girls' side, Emily Baumgart came in at second overall and first for the girls with an 80.
Ashton Montgomery finished third out of the 11 girls attending with a 102.
"It's a really good day for her," Olson said of junior Montgomery. "She's been struggling with health issues. It was another gutty performance for Ashton."
Tri-Cities Prep and Liberty Christian each brought one girl to the match. Tri-Cities prep finished with a 101, and Liberty Christian a 115.
DeSales faces Tri-Cities Prep, Liberty Christian and St. John-Endicott Thursday at 1 p.m. at Sun Willows in Pasco.
