MOSES LAKE - After picking up its first league loss when it split with Chiawana Friday, the Wa-Hi baseball team responded by sweeping Moses Lake, 8-4 and 10-7, in a Big Nine Class 4A road doubleheader Tuesday.

A two-out, two RBI single from Jarrod Needham followed by another RBI single from Daniel Lake started the Blue Devils with a 3-0 lead in game one.

Moses Lake answered with a run scored in the bottom of the second.

The Chiefs and Blue Devils traded a pair of runs each in the third, but Wa-hi began to pull away as it scored three more runs over the final four innings to just one from Moses Lake.

Sophomore Spencer Locati struck out four batters through four innings and reliever Adam Mathews knocked down three over the final three innings to protect the Blue Devil lead.

The Chiefs jumped on Wa-Hi early in game two, scoring four runs in the bottom of the first.

But Wa-Hi answered with an 8-run barrage in the top of the next inning, including a bases-loaded triple to right field from Locati and a two-run double from Cody Furstenberg to put the Blue Devils up 8-4.

The Chiefs answered with runs in the third and fourth innings, but Wa-Hi scored in the fifth and seventh and pitcher Luke Reardon clamped down over the final three innings to pick up a complete-game victory.

"We are very happy coming away from Moses Lake with the sweep," Wa-Hi coach Keith Gradwohl said in an e-mail. "Our pitching was good enough to win and once again we came up with key hits in key spots to drive in needed runs."

Moe Handcox led Wa-Hi batters with four hits on the day, including three doubles.

Wa-Hi is 11-3 and 5-1 and travels to Richland for another league doubleheader Friday at 4 p.m.
