Victorian-themed ball to fete Walla Walla sesquicentennial

— In conjunction with Walla Walla’s sesquicentennial celebration, Kirkman House Museum will host a Victorian Ball from 6-10 p.m. Sept. 22 at the Walla Walla Armory.

Music will be performed by New Columbia Cotillion Band, with Dance Master Mitchell Frey. Some dancing tunes have probably not been played for balls in the Pacific Northwest for 150 years.

A dance workshop will be at the Armory from 1-3 p.m. the day of the ball to instruct novice dancers.

Victorian dress is encouraged but not mandatory. Tickets will be $25 per person.

A formal reception will be at be at the museum from 7-9 p.m. Sept. 21 with wine, hors d’oeuvres and chamber music. This event is limited to 40 people. Admission will be $10 per person. Victorian clothing must be worn to this reception.

Trunk shows and fittings for Victorian clothing have been tentatively scheduled for Aug. 25 and Sept. 8 at the Museum for those wanting to rent or purchase era-appropriate clothing for the reception or ball. Call the museum for trunk show days and hours as they may change.
