A four-day training for those who want to hone their talent in the kitchen promises to be much more than slicing and dicing.
Chef instructors from the Wine Country Culinary Institute will take participants through a rigorous Culinary Boot Camp next week.
The training runs Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. on the main campus at Walla Walla Community College.
A number of topics will be covered throughout the week leading up to the main event -- a winemaker-style dinner where participants are the guests of the chefs.
The $800 fee for the training includes two chef's jackets, a pair of chef's pants, chef's hats, aprons and side towels. An additional custom basic knife kit is also available for purchase.
Throughout the training, courses will cover basic knife skills and safety; basic cooking techniques in dry and moist heat cooking; organizing shipping and prep lists; preparation of product for later production; terminology; food and wine pairing; soups, stocks and sauces; basic plated dessert techniques; and vegetables and starches.
The program is intended for anyone who thinks they might have the chops for the kitchen, or those who want to treat themselves to a unique learning experience. To learn more call 527-4443 or visit www.wwcc.edu/forms/el.cfm.
