MOSCOW, Idaho (AP) — Idaho head coach Robb Akey has settled on a quarterback as the Vandals look to rebound from a dismal 2011 season.
Akey announced Monday that junior Dominique Blackman has earned the starting spot, beating out Taylor Davis in the early weeks of fall camp.
Akey says Blackman earned the job with his performance on the field and the film room. In two scrimmages, Blackman is 25 of 35 passing for 348 yards and six touchdowns.
Blackman originally signed to play at Washington, but left after coaches asked him to switch to tight end. He transferred to L.A. Harbor College for a season then logged redshirted at Old Dominion before transferring to Idaho.
Blackman says he’s thrilled to have the chance to help Idaho rebound from a 2-10 record in 2011.
