WALLA WALLA — Money pledged to support the failed city aquatic center will need a new home, a Sherwood Trust official says.
The local nonprofit had pledged $525,000 over a three-year period to buoy up money contributed by taxpayers.
Although the foundation’s preference was to support an aquatic center, that money must now be used otherwise, Edwards said. For this year, the available money is $190,000.
The foundation’s goal, always, is to increase leadership and organizational capacity, as well as human, community and economic development. Paying for that means a healthy community to invest in, he said. “Our mission to build the capacity of the community and we fund of multiple levels at the same time to achieve that.”
Nonprofits in the Walla Walla area are invited to submit grant proposals by Sept. 30 using the Sherwood Trust’s normal guidelines, which can be found at www.sherwoodtrust.org.
Organizations that previously received grants in 2010, 2011 and 2012 are not eligible to submit proposals. Those requesting more than $25,000 must submit financial statements in accordance with the guidelines.
