WALLA WALLA — Northwest Open Invitational first-round leader Brandon Kearney, assistant professional at Bend Golf and Country Club in Bend, Ore., followed his first round 63 with a 1-under-par 71 and saw his lead narrow to just two shots going into today’s final round at Wine Valley Gold Course.

PGA professionals Darren Black of Rainier Golf and Country Club in Seattle, and defending champion Corey Prugh from Manito Golf and Country Club in Spokane, are just two back thanks to rounds of 66 and 67, respectively.

Black’s 66 was low for the day along with John D’Amelio of Inglewood Golf Club in Kenmore, Wash.

In all, 10 players are within five shots of the lead and 42 players are under par for the championship.

Play continues today, with the final round beginning at 7:21 a.m. with the leaders off at 11:30.

This is the third year in a row Wine Valley has hosted the Northwest Open Invitational. The PGA Pacific Northwest Section includes 1,100 PGA members and apprentices in Washington, Oregon, Northern Idaho, Western Montana and Alaska. The Northwest Open Invitational is one of six major championships conducted by the section.
