WAITSBURG — About 24 acres of city-owned property will be sold to The McGregor Co. for $3,100 per acre. The sale was approved by the Waitsburg City Council at its Tuesday meeting.
The property, adjacent to McGregors’ Waitsburg facility, includes an abandoned bunkhouse. It is a former fruit packing plant that was given to the city. McGregor was the only respondent to a city request for proposal for disposition of the property.
According to city manager Randy Hinchliffe, the bunkhouse was considered a safety hazard, and a potential liability to the city. McGregor has agreed to tear down the building.
In a separate action Tuesday, the Council agreed to buy about eight acres next to the Waitsburg fairgrounds from Burlington Northern Railroad.
