WALLA WALLA — Walla Walla County commissioners today named Harvey Crowder as the interim head of the county Human Services Department.
Crowder, who is head of the county Health Department, will take over for Daryl Daugs, the current Human Services Department executive director, when Daugs leaves the office at the end of this week.
Daugs notified commissioners earlier this summer he was resigning the post after 2 1/2 years to return to his family in Bremerton and begin a new job at Habitat for Humanity in Kitsap County.
Crowder will continue as executive director of the county Health Department director in addition to managing Human Services. In the meantime, Greg Tompkins, commission chairman, said commissioners will “continue our conversation” on a proposal put forward by Daugs and Crowder to consolidate the Health and Human Services departments under one director.
Speaking for the commissioners, Tompkins thanked Crowder “for your willingness to step up” and act as interim director after Daugs’ departure.
“You’re very welcome,” Crowder replied. “It’s my pleasure and privilege.”
