ASOTIN — Pomeroy played well for three quarters and trailed by just six points heading into the final quarter of their game against Asotin, but the wheels fell off as the Pirates were outscored by 13 in the final quarter to lose, 59-41.

“Turnovers played a big part in the game and we struggled with press,” Pomeroy coach Nettie Severs said, “especially in that fourth quarter when they (Asotin) took the big lead.”

The Pirates turned the ball over 41 times.

Asotin also shot the ball well throughout the game, going 25-for-53, while Pomeroy was just 15-for-61 from the field.

Pomeroy’s Torri Koller led the Pirates with 13 points, 11 rebounds and five assists. Ireland Mayfield added 12 points.

“I’ve got a young team and it could be a learning year for us,” Severs said. “It was one of those games that we were pleased with but we’ve obviously got a lot to work on still.”

Pomeroy travels to St.John Friday for a 6 p.m. start.
