YAKIMA — Wa-Hi dug itself a 19-11 hole after one quarter here Friday against the defending 4A state champion Davis Pirates.
The Blue Devils bounced back to tie the game at 26-26 at intermission and Wa-Hi outscored the Pirates 35-29 over the last 16 minutes to pull out a 61-55 win.
“We got down early and showed a lot of poise, and it’s not a place to (show poise),” Wa-Hi coach John Golden said. “Anytime you win at Davis, it’s a good win.”
Eric Klicker hit two treys in the third period and sparked Wa-Hi to a 45-41 lead heading to the fourth.
The Blue Devils held off the Pirates down the stretch by out scoring Davis 16-14 over the last eight minutes to pull out the 61-55 win.
“We never led by more than six,” Golden added. “We hit some free throws down the stretch, but we missed a lot of pretty easy shots. We have to get to the point where we hit those shots.”
