WALLA WALLA — The Warrior men dropped an 88-84, overtime decision to a club team from Gonzaga University In their Classic opener on Friday.

Walla Walla Community College blew a 10-point lead late in the second half and were outscored 13-9 in overtime during its setback to Gonzaga.

Walla Walla shot just 31 percent from the field (26-of-83) and 56 percent (15-of-27) from the line.

“They were in the finals of club nationals last year,” WWCC coach Mike Reinland said of the Bulldogs. “It’s the Warrior curse. Everybody plays good against us.

“Our kids played hard,” Reinland said. “It was a tough loss, but not a deal where we played poorly. When we were up 10, things were looking OK. Then the lead evaporated.

“We’re down,” Reinland said. “It’s going to be a gut-check season — for the players and coach. Any time you start 0-3, it’s not good.”

Case Rada led four Warriors in double figures with 25 points. Caleb Bravard and Eric Harr added 13 apiece and Dylan Radliff scored 12 points.

WWCC travels to Moses Lake this weekend for the Big Bend Runnin’ Vikes tournament Friday and Saturday.
