WALLA WALLA — Walla Walla Community College gutted out a 62-55 women's basketball victory over Clackamas Friday night in the opening day of the Warrior Classic.

Walla Walla displayed offensive balance despite the absence of Michelle Seitz — the team’s leading scorer — for much of the game due to foul trouble. A quartet of Warriors scored in double figures led by the 15 points of Hailey Felgenhauer. Caitlin Duncan added 12 while Allie Kelsey and Gabby Anderson contributed 10 points apiece.

“Hailey played well and Allie played great defense,” WWCC coach Bobbi Hazeltine said. “Caitlin was solid again. Gabby was big. Allie and Michelle hit big shots.”

Defensively, WWCC limited the Cougars to 27-percent shooting from the field. It outrebounded Clackamas, 58-39.

“I thought we were pretty good,” Hazeltine said of the defensive effort. “We worked a ton on defense this week. That’s what won us the game.

“They’re good,” Hazeltine said of the Cougars. “Out goal was to stay with them. Our kids played so hard.”

Walla Walla begins a three-day, three-game road trip Friday at Mt. Hood.
