WALLA WALLA — A man charged with holding two women at gunpoint in his apartment Thursday made his first appearance in court today.
Kyle R. Jamerson, 27, of 1020 Alvarado Terrace, Apt. C, has been charged with first-degree kidnapping, second-degree assault, possession of an unlawful firearm, and unlawful possession of a firearm.
Jamerson was the object of a police manhunt that ended Thursday afternoon. He was captured in Walla Walla after being seen by an off-duty College Place police officer near the intersection of University and Stanton Streets. The officer called dispatch and Jamerson was taken into custody without incident.
According to a probable cause statement filed in Walla Walla Superior Court today and an earlier Walla Walla Police press release, the two women had gone to Jamerson’s apartment Wednesday night. While there, Jamerson pointed a sawed-off 12-gauge shotgun at one of the women, with whom he had a previous relationship, and told her she was not allowed to leave. He also threatened to kill the woman, police said.
After some time had passed, one of the women became ill and they all went to the hospital. Jamerson, who still had possession of the shotgun, remained in the vehicle near the emergency room entrance and the women went inside where a call was made to 911, police said. Officers arriving at the hospital found Jamerson’s unoccupied pickup and the shotgun.
During the incident, the hospital was placed on lockdown, which was lifted later that morning.
At this morning’s hearing, Superior Court Judge Donald W. Schacht set bail for Jamerson at $50,000 and appointed Jerry Makus as the defense attorney in the case.
