MILTON-FREEWATER — A local man died in a single-vehicle accident this morning after his pickup rolled off a rural road northeast of town.
Nick Gettman, 26, was found dead in a pickup by Milton-Freewater Rural Fire Department personnel around 2:30 a.m. near the intersection of Spofford and Birch Creek roads; there were no other occupants in the pickup.
The victim's name was confirmed by a former employer of Gettman and through Facebook.
A Umatilla County Sheriff's deputy said they were uncertain of the exact time the accident happened and that they are investigating.
Gettman was a paraplegic known for his outstanding attitude about life and a willingness to work hard to overcome every challenge.
He was featured in a 2010 Union-Bulletin story.
