WAITSBURG — Waitsburg-Prescott edged Weston-McEwen’s boys in a non-league basketball matchup here Monday night, 59-55.

The TigerScots, who where missing two starters out with the flu, stayed in the game behind Lance Thacker’s effort as he shot 9-of-18 from 3-point range while piling up 34 points.

“I was proud of how the kids played,” W-M coach Brian Pickard said. “We had some kids step up. Colton Yonts and Grayson Zerba helped out on defense. Lance, he almost singlehandidly kept us in the game.

“We had a chance late down by three,” he said. “We had a good look at a 3 that rimmed out, and we had to foul. They hit free throws and built a five-point lead.”

The TigerScots, now 4-1 on the season, open Blue Mountain Conference play Friday at Grant Union.

“I couldn’t be more proud of them,” Pickard said. “Kids that normally don’t get playing time stepped up and played well.”
