Weston-McEwen girls finally pull away to victory over Waitsburg-Prescott

WAITSBURG — Weston-McEwen’s girls broke a 33-all tie headed into the final quarter by outscoring Waitsburg-Prescott 13-8 for a 46-41 non-league basketball victory here Monday.

Taryn Coffman’s 12 points led the TigerScots, with Marlene Bodmer putting up 11.

Makayla Christopher nabbed nine rebounds to lead W-M, with Keegan Shepard grabbing seven.

“At halftime we made a few adjustments and came out with the mindset that in the fouth quarter we will extend our lead,” W-M coach Amber Doremus said. “By the time the fourth quarter arrived, we were not in the lead, but the girls believed we would.

“When we got the lead, we kept it, extended it and gave some back at the very end,” she said. It’s an opportunity to learn what we are made of and the team w will become.”

Weston-McEwen next plays at Grant Union Friday night.

Waitsburg-Prescott hosts Tri-Cities Prep Friday.
