Wa-Hi's Nelson commits to Montana State for track, cross country

WALLA WALLA — Wa-Hi track and cross country runner Rachel Nelson has verbally committed to Montana State University, Nelson announced Tuesday.

Nelson, a senior who ran the 800-, 1600-, 3200 and 4x400-meter runs at Wa-Hi in addition to cross country accepted a scholarship offer from the Bobcats over Pepperdine, Xavier and Eastern Washington.

She cited academics and proximity to home as reasons she decided to attend MSU, located in Bozeman, Mont.

Nelson will compete in indoor and outdoor track in addition to cross country.

She won’t be able to sign an official letter of intent until Feb. 6th.

The Bobcats began recruiting Nelson as soon as possible in July, although she had already taken several unofficial visits to the campus.
