ROSEBURG, Ore. — Walla Walla Community College trailed Peninsula 46-37 at the half here Saturday in second-day action at a men’s basketball NWAACC crossover tournament on the Umpqua Community College campus.

The Warriors could not dig themselves out of the hole, although they held serve in the second 20 minutes as the Pirates and Warriors finished in a 45-45 dead heat for the second half. The Pirates advanced to today’s championship round with a 91-82 win.

“We played much better (than Friday’s 74-58 win over Linn-Benton),” Warrior coach Jeff Reinland said after Saturday’s loss. “ Our kids played well. We got it down to six with a minute to go. But, Peninsula is very good. They, potentially, could be NWAACC champions. They are athletic and quick to the ball. Our kids did a good job.”

Dylan Radliff led the Warriors with 27 points and Case Rada chipped in 23.

In Friday’s tournament opener, the Warriors shot under 30 percent from the field, but pulled out a 74-58 victory over Linn Benton.

“We did not play very well,” Reinland said. “We shot very poorly. We played pretty good defense and were able to win the game. We led by 15-to-18 (points) most of the game.”

Caleb Bravard and Radliff led the Warriors as both posted double-doubles. Bravard scored a team-leading 19 points and grabbed a game-high 10 boards. Radliff chipped in 15 points and handed out 11 assists.

WWCC will play Blue Mountain at 2 p.m. today.
