Weston-McEwen boys beat Enterprise, 54-51

ATHENA — Weston-McEwen’s boys recovered from a Friday loss at Grant Union to notch a home victory over Enterprise here Saturday night.

The TigerScots, 1-1 in the Blue Mountain Conference and 5-2 overall, lost to the Prospectors, 70-62, then beat the Outlaws, 54-51.

Lance Thacker led W-M on Friday with 18 points. Zane Chapman added 16 while Nick Pease contributed 15 points and 17 rebounds. Jacob Ramirez had eight steals and nine assists.

On Saturday, the TigerScots secured 23 steals. Ramirez had 15 points, five steals and four assists. Thacker scored 14 points.

“Against Grant Union, we got off to a pretty good start,” W-M coach Brian Pickard said, whose team led by 22-8 at one point in the first quarter. “In the second quarter, there was a two-minute span when they hit five 3s. We had a hard time recovering from that.”

Grant Union outscored the TigerScots 24-10 in the second quarter to erase W-M’s lead a eventually pull away for the win.

The TigerScots won on Saturday despite 17 points and 19 rebounds from Enterprise’s Don Greenshields.

“We came out quick had a decent lead,” Pickard said of Saturday’s win. “Greeshields had 12 of his 17 points off of offensive rebounds.”

Despite scoring just four points, Pickard said Kolten Youncs provided a fourth-quarter spark that helped the TigerScots prevail.

W-M plays at Heppner on Friday.
