BURBANK — Walla Walla Valley Academy picked up a 59-44 victory over Class 1A Burbank Tuesday night despite facing an aggressive ball-pressure defense.

“I think it was a result of the team really playing together,” WWVA coach Scott Wagner said of the win. “Burbank pressured us extremely hard the whole game and the guys handled it well and made good decisions, and we won the game as a result.”

Dustin Rose led the Knights (7-0) with 14 points on 5-of-10 shooting from the field and 2-of-2 shooting from the line.

The Knights built a 29-17 at halftime, but saw that lead dwindle to 41-35 by the end of the third when Rose helped rebuild the dam.

“He hit a couple 3-pointers down the stretch that stretched the lead back out,” Wagner said. “Dustin’s shot kind of got us back out in the lead and made a difference.”

Alex Wagner added 13 points and Mat Hanson scored 12.

“Matt Hansen did a good job tonight leading the team and handling the pressure,” Wagner said.

WWVA hosts Mac-Hi Thursday at 7:30 p.m.
