Organizers of the Walla Walla Balloon Stampede are building their army of volunteers for next year’s 39th annual event.
The Walla Walla Valley Chamber of Commerce will host its first volunteer meeting Jan. 7. The 5:30 p.m. gathering will be in the board room of the Chamber, 29 E. Sumach St.
Between 250 and 300 community members are needed for the event to take off each year, said Chamber President and Chief Executive Officer David Woolson. “We are in need of many volunteers to make this a success,” he said in a release.
A number of opportunities are available for all kinds of talents, from the jobs during Nite Glow to crews during launches.
Next year’s Stamepde will be May 10-12, kicking off that Friday with balloon launches at local schools around the community. The theme is “Fly Me to the Moon.”

Incidentally, the Chamber office will be closed for the holiday Dec. 24 through Jan. 1. The office will re-open Jan. 2.
