WALLA WALLA — Tyreek Luckett’s 30-point night wasn’t enough to lead Walla Walla University to its third victory of the season Tuesday, as five different Missionaries hit double digits in a 107-76 Whitman victory.

The NAIA Division II Wolves (2-15) fell behind 25-10 with eight minutes gone in the first half and trailed by the same margin, 55-40, at the end of the period.

But a 17-6 Whitman run to open the second half, keyed by a Drew Raher 3-pointer, helped the Missionaries (7-2) squash any WWU hope of pulling an upset.

“I thought we played considerably harder in the second half,” Whitman coach Eric Bridgeland said. “And it was nice to know that we could turn it on like that.”

Ryan Gilkey led Whitman with 17 points on a 7-of-8 performance in the post and a 3-for-4 mark at the line.

Matt Mournier, Josh Duckworth and Peter Clark each scored 13 for Whitman, while post Ben Eisenhardt scored 12.

In all, 12 different Missionaries broke into the scorer’s column.

WWU’s Luckett was prolific and accurate, hitting nine of his 14 attempts, including a 6-of-9 performance from beyond the arc and a 6-of-6 night at the line for his 30 points.

WWU turned the ball over 30 times and the Missionaries picked up 11 steals in the lopsided loss. Whitman was outrebounded, 36-33, but that may have had something to do with the extra 17 field-goal the Missiornaries had.

Whitman hosts Simpson College (Iowa) Thursday night at 8 p.m.

The Wolves have an extended break before visiting Pacific University Saturday, Dec. 29, at 6 p.m.
