South Wasco bolts past Helix boys

HELIX — South Wasco bolted to a 23-7 lead after one quarter, extended its advantage to 48-14 at halftime and cruised the rest of the way to a 78-49 Big Sky Conference basketball victory over Helix here Tuesday night.

“We didn’t show up ready to play basketball,” Grizzlies coach Luke Hegdal said.

Dusty Bennett, a 5-foot-9 junior guard, led Helix scorers with 14 points. Fellow juniors Derek Clark and Jason Bushman added 11 points each for the Grizzlies.

Helix, 1-7 and 0-2, host Long Creek-Ukiah at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
