WALLA WALLA — The Blue Mountain chapter of the American Red Cross announced Wednesday the appointment of Melissa Buckley as its new executive director. She will replace Jerry Cummins as the agency head.
Buckley has a banking and investment background and has served on the chapter’s board for several years.
“We are extremely excited to have Melissa join our team,” said Terry Pollard, regional chief executive officer, in a news release. “In addition to her extensive business background, Melissa possesses an insightful understanding of the organization from a board member’s perspective. She undoubtedly will be a great asset to our team and to the community as a whole.”
Beginning early January, Buckley will oversee Red Cross service delivery in Walla Walla and Columbia counties, including 24/7 disaster assistance and outreach to veterans and active duty members of the armed forces.
She will spearhead local fundraising efforts and develop agency partnerships in the community.
Cummins will continue to be part of American Red Cross as a local volunteer. “It has been my pleasure to have been involved with the volunteers, community members and certainly those who have received services,” he said in the release.
