Waitsburg-Prescott grapplers find success at own meet


PRESCOTT — Waitsburg-Prescott wrestlers enjoyed time in the victory circle at a seven-team meet here Tuesday.

At 160 pounds, W-P’s Dalton Larue pinned Pomeroy’s Kyle Hyer in 50 seconds before winning a forfeit over Pomeroy’s Kenny Carr.

At 145 pounds, W-P’s Trenton Kitselman pinned White Swan’s Rodrigo Gonzales in 49 seconds.

At 170 pounds, W-P’s Steven Grimes pinned White Swan’s Aric Ashue at the 2:27 mark.

And at 185 pounds, W-P’s Tristan Newman pinned Colfax’s Aaron Arneson in 45 seconds, and then again pinned Arneson at 4:14 for the victory.

At 113 pounds, W-P’s Adolfo Armenta pinned Tri-Cities Prep’s Carlos Nacadia in 1:04 before being pinned by Liberty Christian’s Kain Feltwell in 1:34.

Gabe Escalante, at 120 pounds, faced Gladys Palma from White Swan, with Palma picking up an 11-7 decision for Escalante handed Jack Neice from Pomeroy a 13-5 defeat by decision.

W-P’s Brandon Aceves, at 132 pounds, was pinned by White Swan’s Rodrigo Alvarado in 1:33, and then pinned Pomeroy’s Greg Florek in 2:46.

At 138 pounds, W-P’s James Thompkins was pinned by St. John-Endicott’s Thomas Newton in 3:53 before Thompkins pinned Juan Serrano of White Swan in 54 seconds.

At 195 pounds, W-P’s Antonio Benito was pinned by Liberty Christian’s Walker Strubel at the 4:34 mark.

Waitsburg-Prescott’s grapplers next head to the Pomeroy Tournament Dec. 28-29.
