4th-quarter turnovers doom Pomeroy against Liberty Christian

RICHLAND — Torri Koller scored 20 points on seven field goals — including six 3-pointers — but it wasn’t enough for Pomeroy Saturday night as they fell to Liberty Christian, 55-41, in a Southeast 1B girls basketball game.

The Pirates battled to a 33-all tie through three quarters, but struggled with turnovers down the stretch as they gave up 22 second-half points. Pomeroy finished with 37 turnovers on the night.

“In the fourth quarter it seemed like we turned the ball over every time we went down the court,” Pomeroy coach Nettie Severs said, “They capitalized on it and scored a lot of points. That was a bad quarter for us.

Koller made all six of her 3s in the first half.

“She kept us in the game almost singlehandedly for a while,” Severs said. “They put a lot of pressure on her in the second half and we didn’t step up enough in other areas to compensate for that.”

Savannah Ruark scored nine points and pulled down 13 boards in the loss. Pomeroy outrebounded Liberty Christian 41-35 on the night.

The Pirates visit Tekoa-Oakesdale Friday.
