This community puts children first

For me, the holiday season is a time to reflect, be thankful and count my blessings.

In the wake of tragedy, whether it be near or far, families and community come together to support each other, especially those in need. I am very thankful, blessed and proud to be a part of a community that is supportive of their own.

The outpouring of support for our Blue Ridge families this season has been phenomenal! Many have made donations and given time and support. Toys for Tots (Beth Swanson from Moms' Network), Wi-Hi girls basketball team, Heath Center at Blue Ridge, Walla Walla Public Library (Liz George), Dina Anderson, Arch McHie and the Wa-Hi leadership team, Shoes That Fit through Whitman College (Anne Sirski), Coats for Kids (Christian Aid Center), Kim Cassetto with Walla Walla Community College, Friends of Children program, Jim and Judy Armstrong and the Armstrong family, as well as the Blue Ridge staff, stepped forward to help.

Each of the listed groups and people adopted a family or two, bought and delivered gifts. Their generosity made a difference for these families.

I am privileged to work in both a community and school that puts the needs of children at the forefront all year long, but especially during the holidays.
