BOARDMAN, Ore. — Mac-Hi’s wrestling team claimed second place of eight teams at the Riverside Rumble tournament Saturday despite missing almost half the team thanks to injuries, sickness and vacation time.

Riverside won its tournament with 183 points to the Pioneers’ 152.5. Heppner came in third with 128.

“We were short-handed,” Mac-Hi coach Beau Chester said. “We brought 12 and 11 placed in the top four, so those wrestlers that we brought all came to wrestle. I’m happy for the kids.”

At 120 pounds Cole Sckramstad placed second and Jesus Diaz fourth. Alex Shaw grabbed third at 132 pounds with a 1-1 tournament record.

Jeffrey Jones (138) went undefeated with a 3-0 record finished in first place for his class. Blake Yensen finished fourth in the same class.

Tavis Hodgen (145) won his class after going 3-0.

Vince Roff was unbeaten and took first at 160.

Jesus Saldana placed first at 170 while teammate Jace Copenhaver grabbed third in the same class.

Rouding out the competitors for Mac-Hi was Robert Burton at 195 pounds in third place and Gregory Moreno in fourth with a 2-2 record in the heavyweight division.

The Pioneers wrestle in Pendleton Saturday at the Free-Berry Tournament.
