Wa-Hi's Hoe leads area all-state grid members


WALLA WALLA — Wa-Hi senior Jonah Hoe recently added to his postseason football accolades when he was named to the Washington Class 4A all-state team as a running back.

Hoe, who was earlier honored as the Mid-Columbia Conference’s Player of the Year, rolled up 1,928 yards rushing during his senior campaign. He carried the ball 292 times for the Blue Devils, averaged 6.3 yards per carry and scored 17 touchdowns.

In leading the Blue Devils to a 3-6 record, Hoe also had 19 pass receptions for 252 yards and one touchdown.

He was one of a number of area gridders to receive all-state recognition.

Three Waitsburg-Prescott players were named to the Class 2B-11 team, including senior Dalton Estes, who was a two-way first-team selection at running back and defensive back. Senior Ben Schafer was a first-team pick as an offensive lineman and Danny Stansell, a sophomore, earned second-team honors at linebacker.

DeSales senior defensive lineman Tim Caudill was also named to the second team.

And on the Class 1B-8 all-state team, Touchet senior Octavio Preciado was named to the second team at linebacker.

The Indians finished second in the Southeasst 1B-8 League behind Liberty Christian, which went on to win the state championship. Patriots senior quarterback Mike Olson was named the Class 1B-8 Player of the Year.
