TV spotlight is music to fitness firm's ears

Jazzercise fitness facilities across the country are celebrating the franchise’s upcoming feature on the small screen with big contests and prizes.

On Sunday, the Jazzercise Inc. international franchise will be featured on a new original series, “Be the Boss,” on A&E at 11 p.m.

The competition-based show is from the Emmy-winning creators of “Undercover Boss.” Two Jazzercise franchises will vie for the chance to own their own fitness center and become their own boss. According to an announcement about the show, two instructors are summoned to corporate headquarters by Jazzercise founder and Chief Executive Officer Judi Sheppard Missett, who will tell them they are eligible for a rare career opportunity. Neither knows it includes the keys to their own center.

Over a week, they are put through rigorous job-related challenges to determine the winner.

To publicize the show, Jazzercise operations nationwide will participate in contests on the corporation’s Facebook and Twitter pages.

Those who follow the Jazzercise episode on Twitter or “like” it on Facebook and answer trivia questions based on the show will be eligible for three free months of Jazzercise at participating locations or a $300 Jazzercise apparel gift card.

At the local Jazzercise fitness center, 231/2 S. Spokane St., owner Janet Byerley said she will add one free week of Jazzercise classes to anyone who knows the name of the show’s winner. Participants just need to stop by any class in January to claim the prize.

The workout program is a fusion of jazz dance, resistance training, Pilates, yoga, kickboxing and Latin-style movements. For a class schedule or more information, call 520-4872.
