LEWISTON — Wa-Hi suffered its first loss of the season, a 42-36 setback at the hands of Class 2B Colfax, Saturday night in the championship of the Avista Holiday Classic Saturday night.

Wa-Hi falls to 9-1 on the season with the loss.

“We defended well enough to win,” Wa-Hi coach John Golden said. “We held the other team to eight field goals in whole game and only two in the second half.

“We just didn’t put the ball in hole enough times,” Golden said. “They went to the line 26 times and that was a big difference. We couldn’t match that.”

Eric Klicker and Sam Arias led the team with 11 points apiece. Gabe Porter added eight.

“We didn’t shoot well,” Golden said. “We did tie it up in the third quarter, but just couldn’t quite get over that hump.”

On Friday night Porter dropped 15 points while Arias had 10 in a 44-43 victory over Clarkston to reach the tourney title game.

The Blue Devils held a one-point lead and the ball with 15 seconds remaining before Porter was fouled and hit two clutch free throws.

Clarkston responded with a basket to cut the lead to one but Wa-Hi was able to run out the clock.

The Blue Devils host Hanford Friday at 7:30 p.m.

Is this historic? Has a 4A school ever lost to a 2B school? I thought it was a typo when I first saw the score listed.

That's what I thought also. Wa Hi was undefeated coming into this game. It's a shocker that they lost!
