2012 to go out on a low note?

WALLA WALLA — This year could go out on the coldest note yet.

Tonight’s forecast calls for a low of 12 degrees, which if it happens before midnight will make the last night of 2012 the coldest one of the year. The previous low point was 18 degrees Jan. 19, according to National Weather Service records.

As far as the start of 2013 goes, button up. Predictions call for daytime highs to remain below freezing and nighttime lows in the teens until Thursday, when things may warm up to the mid-20s.

Sunshine will also be in short supply. The patchy freezing fog that greeted commuters today is expected to remain around through the rest of the week. Drivers are being advised to use caution due to the potential for slick road conditions.
