WALLA WALLA — Police arrested a 28-year-old man Friday morning for allegedly stabbing his wife with a kitchen knife.
According to a police report presented in court this morning, Alberto Luna Martinez was arguing with his wife, Norma Tapia, 42, on Thursday night.
During the course of the argument, Martinez allegedly took a kitchen knife from a drawer, and walked into the living room, where he stabbed Tapia through the left arm, into her left lung.
Officer Tim Bennett, spokesman for the Walla Walla Police Department, said Martinez and Tapia went to Walla Walla General Hospital, where they told medical personnel and police the stabbing was an accident. Police arrested Martinez on an outstanding misdemeanor warrant, and he was taken to the Walla Walla County Jail, where he was released.
Bennett said an investigation into the stabbing by Detective Marcus Goodwater led police to believe Martinez had intentionally assaulted his wife, and Martinez was arrested Friday morning when he appeared in court for his warrant arrest.
Bail was set for Martinez in court this morning at $150,000 and he is being held for n investigation of first-degree assault.
