Workshops to help with financial aid applications

WALLA WALLA — Walla Walla High School seniors and their families can attend upcoming workshops to help fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid.

Sponsored by Wa-Hi and Washington State University GEAR UP, the workshops will be held Jan. 15, 22 and 29 from 5:30-7 p.m. in Wa-Hi’s library.

Students and families will receive one-on-one support filling out the FAFSA packet, the universal document required for college financial aid options. Filling out the FAFSA packet includes consideration for grants, federally subsidized student loans, work study and scholarships. All seniors are encouraged to apply.

Workshops will consist of open computer time with trained GEAR UP staff members who will walk families through the online process of filling out documents.

Parents will need to bring their 2011 tax statements and call the Wa-Hi GEAR UP office at 527-3020 or visit for a complete checklist of the information needed to properly file the FAFSA.

Washington State University GEAR UP — Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs — involves a variety of innovative partnerships and initiatives to support students in college and career readiness skills. The local program is located on the Wa-Hi campus.
