POLICE - Gunman shoots clerk during convenience store robbery

Walla Walla Police Department spokesman Tim Bennett holds a flash light up to highlight fingerprints on the front door of the Eastgate Chevron for a detective to capture with tape Tuesday evening after a robbery left the clerk in a local hospital with a gunshot wound.

Walla Walla Police were dispatched this evening at about 9:45 to the Chevron convenience store, 1916 Isaacs Ave, after the clerk had been shot during a robbery. The female clerk, whose name has not been released, was transported by ambulance to a local hospital for a gunshot wound that passed through her arm and into her abdomen. Her condition at this time is unknown. She was conscious and able to talk to officers when they arrived at the scene.

Two suspects entered the store and one of them approached the counter displaying a handgun and demanded cash. While the clerk was complying with the request, she was shot. The suspects are described as younger males, thin build, with their faces covered.

Detectives and members of the Special Teams Unit are currently working the case at this time.
