PASCO - Walla Walla Community College's women, No. 3 in the NWAACC dropped a 65-53 decision to No. 1 Columbia Basin Wednesday night, committing an uncharacteristically high 23 turnovers en route to the loss.

"They're ranked No. 1 in the NWAACC for a reason," WWCC coach Bobbi Hazeltine said. "They played awfully well."

The loss drops WWCC (5-2 in NWAACC East play, 14-5 overall) out of a tie for first place with CBC (6-1, 18-2) in the NWAACC East Region and marks the beginning of the second half of conference play for the Warriors.

"Our strength is 3-point shooting and they took that away from us," Hazeltine said. "We knew they were going to take the 3-point away from us, and we had a plan to go inside. We got the ball inside but we couldn't make shots."

The Warriors shot 37 percent from the field for the night, but dominated in the paint, giving up 26-of-52 (50 percent) buckets to the Hawks.

Michelle Seitz came off the bench to lead the Warriors in scoring with 10 points in the loss.

Jennifer Noon led the Hawks with 23 points, Tiffany Idler had 15, and Ana Jimenez scored 14 points.

Neither team shot much from downtown; WWCC was 4-of-8 from deep, CBC was 3-of-7.

Despite the Warriors' struggles, they entered the second half down just 31-29.

But the Hawks went on a 17-4 run to start the second half and open a wide margin.

"I told them at halftime we were lucky to be only down by two, but in the second half they went on that big run and we just didn't know what hit us and we fell apart," Hazeltine said. "(It was) really uncharacteristic. We have a lot of sophomores who have been there before - it was baffling."

WWCC travels to Treasure Valley (1-6, 3-15) Saturday at 2 p.m.
