The Marc Restaurant and The Vineyard Lounge are jumping into the new "February is for Foodies" campaign with a month long menu of events and experiences for food-lovers.
The food festivities begin tonight with the introduction of a new dinner and dessert menu at The Marc and new Happy Hour, tapas, cocktails and bar menus in The Vineyard Lounge, operators said.
The changes mark the operations' initiation into a new campaign announced this week. "February is for Foodies" is a promotion designed to help build off-season tourism through Walla Walla's culinary scene.
Each week throughout the month at the historic hotel, a featured winery will be highlighted along with a three-course wine-paired menu for $45. A food-only option is available for $30. Menus will begin Thursdays and run through the next Wednesday. First up is Woodward Canyon. Other wineries scheduled to be featured this month are L'Ecole No 41, Dunham Cellars and Long Shadows Vintners. Each Saturday during the month, the winemaker from the featured winery will participate in a special Wine & Bites gathering in the hotel's Empire Room. Those events run 4:30-6 p.m.
The hotel is also participating in culinary classes at Walla Walla Community College. The $20 classes begin at 11 a.m. Saturdays and include lunch, musical entertainment from The Four Tenors, a wine sampling by the featured winery and an Iron-Chef cookoff between local chefs. Those who attend can head back to the Marcus Whitman's Empire Room for Wine & Bites.
The classes are themed. This week's focuses on the Super Bowl. Other themes are chocolate, rivers, oceans, field and farm, and celebrity chefs. Tickets are available at 524-5110. Additionally the Marcus Whitman will offer a February is for Foodies room package that includes tickets to the class and the three-course meal.
The Vineyard Lounge will feature a Super Bowl celebration Sunday starting at 1 p.m. There's no cover charge. The first 100 guests can pick a square on a prize board for a chance to win one of four gift certificates. Specials will include a $10 burger, beer and drink special.
