James E. "Jim" McGill of Walla Walla passed away
Jan. 29, 2012, at Walla Walla General Hospital at the age of 69 years.
Memorial services will be Monday, Feb. 6, 2012, at 11 a.m. at the Bethel Assembly of God Church in Walla Walla, with Pastor Charles Long officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the family of Jim McGill.
Jim was born Oct. 15, 1942, in Hoopole, Ill., the son of James E. and Ida M. Bloomfield McGill. He graduated from Union High School in 1960 in Barstow, Calif., and from Southern Bible College in Houston, Texas, in 1969 with bachelor degrees in missions, theology and education. While attending SBC, he met his future wife, Sheri. They married in 1965. In addition to their three children, they became "parents" to many foster children, and kids who just needed a home and someone to give them guidance. In 1972 they helped open a Children's Home in Markham, Texas. Jim was always happiest when he had kids and family around him. He worked for several businesses in the area to help support his family, but was always a full-time minister until his health began to fail in 1999. Over the years he pastured at seven churches and currently as chaplain assistant at the Washington State Penitentiary in Walla Walla. He was a full-time minister to friends and family; anytime someone needed him he was there. His greatest desire was to see people come to know the Lord and their lives changed. Jim's love for music, talking about cars and the Bible was overshadowed only by his love for people and his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a grandson, Austin James Picard. He is survived by his wife, Sheri at their home; two daughters and spouses, Dawnita Lynn and John "Charlie" Picard of Pendleton, Crystal Joy and David Wernlund of Helix; a son and spouse, Timothy Ray and Bobbie McGill of Pendleton; four brothers, Perry, Roy, David and Thomas McGill; two sisters, Barbara Jessmer and Janice Potter; grandchildren, Bethany and Ryan Hodgson, Curtis and Kayla Picard, Justin, Johnny Casey Picard, Patrick, Nicole and Brandon Thompson, Robert and Wallace McGill and Johanna Wernlund; great-grandchildren, Jostlin Kennedy Picard and Jayce Ryan Hodgson; and numerous nieces and nephews.
