HEPPNER, Ore. - Mac-Hi took 11 wrestlers to the Bank of Eastern Oregon Wrestling Invite here Saturday and finished third.
"Any time you take 11 wrestlers to a 13-team event and finish third, you went out and wrestled exceptionally well," Pioneer coach Beau Chester said.
Out of those 11, Mac-Hi sent five wrestlers to the championship round. The Pioneers crowned three individual champions.
Ryan Bullock, at 152 pounds, pinned both of his opponents, including Jesus Retano, the defending 1A-2A state champion, to take the title. Bullock was also named ‘Most Outstanding for the Tournament'.
At 160, Francisco Saldana went 3-0 to capture the 160-pound crown. Saldana won the title by pin after advancing to the final with a 7-3 decision.
Taylor Hodgen pinned both of his opponents in the 170 class and took home the individual title.
At 132, Travis Hodgen lost the final in overtime to take a second-place finish.
Brayden Moller wrestled to a second-place finish with a 2-1 record in the 182-pound class.
At 126, Chandler Fortune, and at 170, Beau Birdwell, each earned third-place points for the Pioneers.
Blake Yensen and Patrick Sheets both finished fourth. Yensen at 138 and Sheets at 145.
Riverside won the team title, with Culver second, and the Pioneers third.
Mac-Hi closes out the regular season with a dual meet in Baker Thursday.
The Pioneers have two weeks to get over the current cold epidemic impacting the team, get healthy, and get ready for the Regional Tournament at Prineville February 17 and 18.
