Whitman College to host science fair for middle school students

WALLA WALLA - Middle school students are invited to participate in Whitman College's Middle School Science Fair on April 22.

The fair will run from 1-3:30 p.m. and is open to students in sixth, seventh and eighth grades. Registration is required, and must be completed by March 30. Because of space constraints only the first 50 registrants will be accepted.

Students are asked to choose a specific question that can be answered through individual investigation - not through an Internet search. From developing a hypothesis, students can collect data and report their results in a journal.

Entries can range from chemistry to biology to zoology, but must adhere to the science fair guidelines. No experimenting on animals or contact with pathogenic organisms is allowed. Any safety concerns should be addressed before the start of the project.

For more information on guidelines and how to register, contact Mary Burt, HHMI Science Outreach Coordinator, at 522-4441 or burtmb@whitman.edu.
