Pomeroy boys fall to St. John-Endicott

ST. JOHN -- Pomeroy's offense generated 28 first-quarter points but fell off dramatically after that here Saturday night as St. John-Endicott rolled to an 82-66 Southeast 1B District boys basketball victory.

The Pirates led the Eagles 28-27 after the first eight minutes. But SJE rallied for a 48-43 halftime lead and outscored the Pirates 34-23 in the second half to raise its record to 12-2 in league play and 13-6 overall.

"They ran away from us in the third quarter," Pomeroy coach Brian Koller said. "They handled our press pretty well and started pressing us. We basically did a poor job of passing the ball."

Kaleb Smith scored 23 points to lead the Eagles.

Tanner Fielder sank four 3-point baskets and led the Pirates with 17 points. Riley Bott followed with 15 points and Mitch Ruchert contributed 14.

The Pirates are 7-7 in SE1B, 9-11 overall. Pomeroy hosts Lacrosse-Washtucna Thursday at 6 p.m. in the first round of district play.
